In order to make a confident decision when choosing the right flooring for your project, it helps to understand the different wood flooring construction types. While they are equally beautiful, and long-lasting (in most situations), one flooring construction may be better suited for a project than the other. When in doubt, ask your professional installer during your in-home consultation.
Each plank is 3/4" thick, solid piece of wood, topped with multiple layers of A&W's long-wearing, eco-friendly finish. Solid construction can be sanded and refinished multiple times, if necessary. This construction can be used on or above grade.

Each plank is created using five layers of natural hardwood laminated and "cross-grained" to each other, then topped with a 2MM layer of the chosen hardwood species and nine coats of A&W's long-wearing, eco-friendly finish. Engineered is durable, and doesn't expand and contract with seasonal temperature changes, and provides resistance to warping and buckling. Engineered floors are generally thinner than solid and should not be sanded and refinished more than 1-2 times. This construction can be used on, above or below grade and on concrete slab. All A&W engineered floors are phase two carb compliant.

Laminate flooring mimics naturally occurring patterns and hues to look and feel like wood. Multiple layers compose each laminate, which can be top-finished for even greater endurance than the natural counterparts. Low maintenance, durability and glueless installation make laminate a popular choice for those seeking a beautiful and functional floor.
